How to Get Rid of Odors in Pipes

Did you know that although your sink may seem to have developed a bad smell overnight, you may have buildup in your pipes that has been accumulating over time? While, in most cases, stinky odors in pipes can be caused over a few weeks or longer, you could be experiencing smells from other sources like rotting food or a backed-up sewer line.

A smelly sink is an unpleasant occurrence that can be fixed with a few simple solutions. Continue reading this blog to learn how you can neutralize any smelly odors in your sink.

Hot Water Method

One of the simplest ways to rid your pipes of odors is by mixing hot water with dish soap to pour down the drain. Just mix boiling hot water with a few drops of dish soap and stir it until the soap is dissolved. Once the mixture is nice and combined, pour it down the drain to break up any solidified blockages like grease, oil, or another congealed substance.

Baking Soda and Vinegar

Another extremely easy way to eliminate smells in your pipes is by mixing baking soda and vinegar together. Both are natural deodorizers that have been used for years to clean and deodorize. Easily mix together baking soda and vinegar in a measuring cup with a half cup of baking soda and one cup of vinegar. Let the solution foam and then pour it down the drain followed by boiling hot water to push it through your pipes.

Citrus Peels and Ice Cubes

Who doesn’t love the fresh and pleasant smell of citrus? Citrus peels from lemons and oranges are great deodorizers that you can use to clean your pipes. If you have a garbage disposal, run hot water down the drain and add small slices of citrus peel down the disposal. Then, add ice cubes to the disposal and turn it on. Let the ice and citrus peels go down the drain and then rinse with hot water and turn the garbage disposal off.
